My Backround
Over 30 years experience as a Registered Nurse as well as a broad range of expertise to include Eating Disorders, Advanced Reproductive Technologies, Operating Room, Legal Nurse Consultant and Risk Management at a major university hospital.   As a Risk Manager, I had seen more than my share of tragedy and medical errors, leading to many sleepless nights. Witnessing the horrors of COVID firsthand left me deeply burned out. At the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, I left the hospital setting. After taking a much needed vacation and attempting to declutter my life, I realized I wasn’t ready to retire just yet. I decided to return to work part-time, which led me to my current role as a Wellness Nurse in an Assisted Living facility.

My Story

While still working full-time, my 89-year-old mother was rushed to the ER with chest pain. My husband was with her and called to inform me that she was being taken to the Cardiac Cath lab. Shortly after, she had a stent placed. Being the stubborn, independent woman she was, she insisted on going home the very next day. I tried to convince her she wasn’t ready, but she was adamant. Frustrated and worried, I went home, knowing she wasn’t prepared for the challenges ahead. The next day, I received a call from the hospital—my mother was in the ICU after suffering a cardiac arrest. The intensivist looked directly at me and asked, “What do you think” when discussing the need for a pacemaker? This marked the beginning of my journey in navigating her recovery, balancing the complexities of her care, and managing my own life and responsibilities. The “messiness” that we all try so hard to control became my reality.
